Beware The Evil Eye!

Scripture:

Mat 6:24 ESV (24) "No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

Mat 6:22-23 ESV (22) "The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, (23) but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!

Terminology:

Yetzer Hara = Evil Eye

Yetzer Tov = Good Eye

Hi Clive,

Your comments are very intriguing, intentional and are encompassed within a proactive directive. I’ve been reading through the book of Mormon today, so it was refreshing to listen to your post and be able to bring my mind to halt, slow the pace down and hear what you had to say on the evil eye of the heart vs good eye, inward focus vs outward focus. This made me wonder about selfish introspection, which has no time of day or energy to give to others, it is a preoccupation towards seemingly legitimate personal matters but does not endear my eye towards the light of God. “deep-self contemplation” only serves to draw my mind away from Christ and encourage a closed heart, blindness in all kinds of perceptions that often double as deceptions. Deception is not light, it emanates only darkness. Where in the bible does it speak of self examination? Very few verses can be found (Cor 13:5, 1 Cor 11:27-28). I should be looking towards God and not towards me.

“For one look at self, take ten looks at Christ” Adelaide Proctor

I am going to try and do this, because maintaining the eye on myself or preoccupying the mind with matters that are internal, will only cultivate blindness.
